The new setup works fine with one exception: the intensity **** has no effect at all, and is not even recognized on the front panel keyboard test (although all of the other knobs and buttons are). Since the intensity control on the "L" scopes had no particular function, at least as far as I could determine, is it possible that there's a configuration jumper or setting that needs to be changed to let this new main board know that it's now installed in a chassis with a display? Although the original 6054A board didn't work properly, it did work well enough so that its intensity control functioned. I can't find anything in the service manual that addresses this issue. I was able to access the scope only by using a laptop running WinXP and an older version of Java. The latest version of Java that is running on my Win8.1 PC has higher security levels than before, so it now requires me to enter the IP address of the scope as a security exception to allow the remote front panel app to run in the browser. Although I have entered the IP address as an exception, Java still errors with this message: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied ("java.net.SocketPermission" "192.168.1.61:5900" "connect,resolve"). I'm by no stretch of the imagination a Java expert so I hope someone can point me in the right direction to fix this issue as well. It fired right up, and much to my amazement, the time and date were fairly accurate. I opened it up to have one more look at the intensity control and I noticed that there appeared to be some greasy residue coming out of the body of the control. I sprayed it with contact cleaner, flushed a bunch of hardened lubricant out of the body, and put it all back together. The control now works as it should, so the problem turned out to be a defective/dirty encoder. |
