As a first suggestion, before doing any changes, please back up any important information stored on the PC.
 
We recommend to install the Intel® RST version provided by the manufacturer of the board, in this case ASUS, since they will provide the proper version for your platform.
I looked for the model of your board and there are different results for the Asus Z87 motherboard, if you provide the specific model of it, we can always try to look for the Intel® RST version that will be compatible with it:

According to ASUS's web site the board is not compatible with Windows® 10, that is why if there are some kind of problems with the Intel® RST they will be expected, since the application is not compatible with your platform.

Disagree completely!  The board successfully passed windows 10 compatibility test and has been performing correctly (for over 2 yrs) since win10 install without any compatibility issues except for your RST application.

Yes, you can always install Windows® 10, but as you can confirm in the link provided previously, when we looked for drivers for that operating system, it is not showing as supported.
 
In this case then, what we recommend is to get in contact directly with Asus so they can confirm if Windows® 10 is compatible with the board and where to get the drivers for it, including the proper version of Intel® RST:
